School off, School on! Supplies and Uniforms... again!
We all know how tough it is to get the kids ready to be back to school. Therefore, we have gathered some information about where to get support rather than a loan.
Please avoid falling for a loan shark. Read more about how to spot them here: What is a loan shark and how to report a loan shark (stoploansharks.co.uk) and you can read more here: Illegal lending: Loan sharks | MoneyHelper.
Other ways to finance back to school:
Benefits Calculation
Make sure you check if you are missing out on any benefits. Even if you are in full time work, you may be entitled to top up benefits, if your income is lower than a certain amount. Check it here and claim:
Charitable Grants
Some local charities might have offers for small grants to help families with the costs of back to school supplies. Check with Turn2us grants, search and find out more. If you know charities that help people with grants, please share with us to let others know.
Free School Meals
You should check if you are eligible for free school meals for your kids. That can save a huge amount of money.
Childcare help
Don't forget, if you need help with the childcare costs, check for support on the government site as well as with your workplace, as they may offer help with childcare.
Help with Uniform
Check with your local council to see if they can offer help with uniforms. We encourage parents not to throw away used uniforms and instead give them to other families. We know that there are few good will places for that. If you have any recommendations, please share with us so we tell everyone else.
Help with Transport
If you need help getting your children to school, check if you can get help from your local council.
If you still need more help, then you can apply for a loan with your local credit union as your first option to for borrowing. Make use of your community lender.
