Groundhog Day, but a different outage
If today felt a bit too familiar, we’re with you.
The good news first: the app and online banking are working again🎉
We’d barely finished reading the hate mail from last month’s Co-operative Bank issue before life decided to throw another curveball at us.
Thankfully, this one was shorter lived. And, in a slightly ridiculous twist, it was basically the opposite problem.
Last month, you could log in and see your account, but some payments weren’t moving.
Today, payments were moving, but you couldn’t log in and see your account.
You really couldn’t make it up.
There was one other bit of good news this time around, none of the banks we use were caught up in the problem. Some of the big banks were affected by the wider disruption, but our payment routes kept working. That’s why money was still moving as usual, even though you couldn’t get into the app to see it.
Google Cloud has since confirmed that the underlying cause was a power event affecting its London infrastructure region. That caused widespread disruption across a number of services and organisations, including one of the systems used by our online banking provider.
That meant the CLEVR Money app and online banking couldn’t let customers log in or view their accounts for a few hours today. Our staff could still see your accounts and provide help.
The important bit throughout was that your money was safe and payments continued to work. If we were due to automatically send money back to you, those payments continued as normal.
We know that didn’t make the disruption any less annoying. Not being able to check your balance, move money or simply see what was happening with your account is a real inconvenience, especially if you needed to do something urgently.
Thankfully, things are now back up and running and you should be able to use the app and online banking as normal again.
We're not expecting any problems, but if you do come across an issue then email hello@clevr.money and tell us.
At this point, we’re hoping the rest of October will be just a little more boring 🩷
